New Motor Learning Training Program
The Motor Learning and Performance program is a great example of the cross-over in training methods between all public safety disciplines. The program consists of a 40-minute video presentation and an accompanying PowerPoint presentation.
This program address the neurophysiological aspects of stressful situations, and methods to program effective behaviors in light of them. The methods covered have been proven in law enforcement, military, and professional sports arenas. The presenters are Lt. Craig Allen and Officer Roberto DiGiulio of the Hillsboro, OR police department, which cross-trains with the Hillsboro fire department extensively. Targeted primarily at trainers, the program is on overview of the layered approach to training. This approach results in effective field performance much sooner than the traditional training methods of voluminous skill repetitions and good-old-fashioned on-the-job experience.
