Public Education
Every year U.S. fire departments respond to nearly two million fires, with three-quarters of them occurring in residences. Fire costs our nation billions of dollars every year in property loss, thousands of lives are lost, and many more disrupted.
Most of these fire are preventable. The Firefighters Support Foundation sets aside a portion of our funds for, and we devote efforts to, fire safety and prevention education.
In addition to the periodic tips on our home page, our latest public education brochure can be downloaded here. Permission is hereby granted to reproduce this brochure for public education and awareness purposes. If you would like more of these brochures, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

Download IAFC's "Ready, Set, Go!" brochure. - The United States Fire Administration's (USFA) website is chock-full of great fire prevention information. We strongly advise everyone to visit the site and avail themselves of the resources there. See USFA resources now.
- The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) also has many fire prevention resources, including their Sparky the Dog campaign for children. Visit the NFPA site.
- Kidde, the manufacturer of smoke alarms and fire extinguishers, has a very informative section of their website that will show you how to choose the right alarm or extinguisher for your home. Check out Kidde.
